Concussion Baseline Testing Youth Performance Team Partnerships

Supporting the Whole Young Athlete

Youth sports can help children and teens build movement skills, confidence, teamwork, resilience, and connection.

They can also bring changing physical demands, competition, training loads, travel, and the possibility of injury.

Elevate works with local teams to bring practical wellness and performance resources into the environments where young athletes already train and compete.

How We Support Youth Sports

Programming may vary by organization, sport, season, and team needs.

Baseline Testing

Offer preseason concussion baseline testing that may provide useful comparison information if an athlete later sustains a suspected concussion.

Movement & Performance

Build strength, balance, coordination, agility, and movement confidence through age-appropriate training opportunities.

Education

Create opportunities for athletes, parents, and coaches to learn about readiness, recovery, concussion awareness, and healthy participation.

Connection to Care

Help athletes and families connect with appropriate Mammoth Hospital clinical services when medical evaluation is needed.

PRESEASON ASSESSMENT

Concussion Baseline Testing

Elevate works with participating youth sports organizations to provide preseason concussion baseline testing.

Testing establishes individual preseason information that may be useful to a qualified clinician if an athlete later sustains a suspected concussion.

Team screening can often be coordinated at Elevate or at another appropriate team location depending on group size, equipment, staffing, and scheduling.

Explore Concussion Baseline Testing

A Baseline Is One Piece of the Picture

Baseline testing is designed to capture information before an injury occurs.

If a concussion is later suspected, a healthcare professional may consider baseline information alongside symptoms, history, neurologic findings, balance, cognition, vestibular or ocular findings, and other clinical information.

Baseline testing does not diagnose a concussion, rule out a concussion, or provide automatic clearance for return to sport.

Technology-Supported Baseline Testing

Mammoth Hospital uses SWAY as part of its concussion baseline testing program.

The technology can support standardized assessment of selected balance, cognitive, and related measures used within the broader concussion program.

Baseline results are intended to support future clinical interpretation when appropriate and are not a stand-alone diagnostic tool.

Bring Baseline Testing to the Team

For participating youth sports organizations, Elevate may coordinate group preseason baseline testing for athletes.

Whenever operationally feasible, testing can be arranged at a location that works well for the team.

This helps reduce barriers for families and makes preseason screening easier to integrate into team preparation.

Local Teams We Have Supported

Youth sports partnerships may evolve from season to season.

Organizations we have worked with include:

Mammoth Lakes Youth Hockey

Preseason concussion baseline testing and connection to local sports medicine and wellness resources.

Mammoth Mountain Mountain Bike Team

Preseason concussion baseline testing for young athletes participating in mountain biking.

Mammoth Mountain Ski & Snowboard Teams

Preseason concussion baseline testing for athletes participating in alpine, snowboard, and related winter disciplines.

Club Sports & School Sports Follow Different Pathways

Elevate's youth sports partnerships primarily support community and club-based athletic organizations.

Student-athletes participating in Mammoth High School athletics typically receive concussion screening, athletic training, and sports medicine support through Mammoth Hospital's school-based Athletic Training Program.

This helps keep school athletic care within the established athletic training and sports medicine workflow.

BEYOND BASELINE TESTING

Build the Foundations for Sport

Concussion baseline testing is only one part of supporting young athletes.

Elevate also offers sports performance and conditioning opportunities that help young participants build foundational movement skills that can transfer across sports.

Athletic Foundations

Athletic Foundations is an Elevate sports performance and conditioning series for elementary and middle school-age participants.

Programming focuses on foundational movement qualities such as running, jumping, landing, balance, coordination, agility, strength, and movement confidence.

The goal is to help young athletes build broad physical skills rather than specializing too early in one sport.

Prepare for the Season Ahead

Young athletes may also connect with other Elevate programs focused on movement, conditioning, screening, and seasonal readiness.

Opportunities may change throughout the year based on sport, season, age, and current programming.

Parents & Coaches Are Part of the Team

Young athletes do not manage health, recovery, and return-to-play decisions alone.

Parents, caregivers, coaches, athletic trainers, and healthcare professionals all play different roles in recognizing concerns and helping athletes access appropriate care.

As Mammoth Hospital's concussion program continues to develop, Elevate plans to expand educational resources for athletes, families, coaches, and community teams.

What If an Athlete May Have a Concussion?

A preseason baseline does not replace a post-injury clinical evaluation.

If an athlete sustains a head injury or develops symptoms concerning for concussion, they should be removed from activities that create further risk and evaluated through an appropriate healthcare pathway.

The athlete's baseline information, when available, may later serve as one component of the clinical assessment.

Return-to-sport decisions should be made through the appropriate clinical process, not from baseline or repeat testing alone.

Connected to Mammoth Hospital Sports Medicine

Elevate coordinates community access and team-based baseline testing, while Mammoth Hospital Orthopedics & Sports Medicine provides the clinical home for the broader concussion program.

When an athlete needs medical evaluation, concussion management, rehabilitation, or return-to-sport guidance, care should move through the appropriate clinical pathway.

This connection helps keep community screening linked to the healthcare resources athletes may need after an injury.

Explore Youth & Families

Youth sports are only one way children and families can connect with Elevate.

The Youth & Families Pathway helps parents, caregivers, children, and teens find programs related to movement, performance, safety, education, community, and wellbeing.

Explore the Performance Pathway

Young athletes who want to build strength, movement skills, conditioning, and confidence can also explore Elevate's Performance Pathway.

The pathway connects participants with relevant performance programs, assessments, seasonal preparation, and individual services.

Youth Sports + Elevate FAQs

What youth sports organizations does Elevate work with?

Elevate has partnered with local club and community sports organizations including Mammoth Lakes Youth Hockey, Mammoth Mountain Mountain Bike Team, and Mammoth Mountain Ski & Snowboard Teams.

Partnerships may change or expand over time.

What is concussion baseline testing?

Baseline testing captures selected preseason information before an athlete sustains an injury.

If concussion is later suspected, that information may help a qualified clinician interpret post-injury findings as one part of a broader clinical evaluation.

Does a normal baseline or post-injury test mean an athlete does not have a concussion?

No. Baseline and computerized testing do not independently diagnose or rule out a concussion.

Concussion evaluation should consider the athlete's symptoms, history, clinical examination, and other relevant findings.

Can Elevate test an entire team?

Potentially. Elevate can work with participating sports organizations to coordinate group preseason baseline testing.

Location, group size, staffing, equipment, age, and scheduling all influence how a team session is organized.

Contact Elevate to discuss your team's needs.

Can baseline testing take place at the team's location?

When operationally feasible, team baseline testing may be coordinated at an appropriate team-selected location.

Elevate will work with the organization to determine whether the space and logistics are suitable for the planned testing.

What happens if an athlete sustains a suspected concussion?

A suspected concussion requires appropriate clinical evaluation.

Preseason baseline information may be available to support the treating clinician, but it does not replace medical assessment or determine return-to-sport clearance by itself.

What is the difference between club sports and school athletic training?

Elevate's Youth Sports partnerships primarily support community and club-based sports organizations.

Mammoth High School student-athletes typically access athletic training and sports medicine services through Mammoth Hospital's school-based Athletic Training Program.
