Learning to stay home alone, watch a younger sibling, or babysit comes with new responsibilities.
Safe Sitter® gives young people the opportunity to learn and practice skills that can help them make thoughtful decisions, care for children, respond to emergencies, and communicate effectively with adults.
The course is interactive and combines discussion, demonstration, hands-on practice, activities, and real-world scenarios.
Safe Sitter® is organized around four core areas that prepare young people for greater independence and responsible child care.
Learn how to recognize unsafe situations, make safer choices, and respond when something unexpected happens.
Explore child development, basic child care responsibilities, behavior management, and practical ways to care for younger children.
Practice how to assess common injuries and illnesses, respond appropriately, and perform choking rescue skills.
Learn how to evaluate babysitting opportunities, communicate with families, discuss expectations, and approach babysitting responsibly.
The national Safe Sitter® curriculum offers CPR as an optional module. Elevate includes CPR practice as part of our comprehensive Safe Sitter® course.
Students practice age-appropriate rescue skills using training equipment under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
Safe Sitter® CPR instruction is intended as part of the youth safety curriculum and should not be confused with an American Heart Association Heartsaver course or other standalone CPR certification course.
Young people getting ready to care for children outside their own family.
Students beginning to take responsibility for younger brothers, sisters, or other family members.
Students building the judgment, safety awareness, and practical skills that support increasing independence.
Safe Sitter® is specifically designed for young teens in grades 6–8.
The curriculum, activities, scenarios, and skills practice are developed with this age group in mind.
Families looking for safety education for younger children may contact Elevate about other age-appropriate opportunities.
Instructors introduce practical concepts through discussion, examples, and guided activities.
Students practice child care, first aid, choking rescue, CPR, and other skills using hands-on activities and training equipment.
