STEP - Support to Empower Peers
Substance Use and Harm Reduction Group
-
STEP - Support to Empower Peers is a goal-oriented harm reduction group designed to foster meaningful change in substance use patterns.
-
STEP welcomes individuals seeking to reduce their substance use, as well as friends and family who want to support their loved ones on this journey.
-
STEP is led by Mammoth Hospital behavioral health assistant and certified Peer-to-Peer Support Specialist Alwyne Buter. This group provides a safe and nonjudgmental space to set personal goals, build support networks, and empower one another in the pursuit of positive change.
STEP is an open group and regular participation is not required. Participants may join at any time and "drop in" as needed. This group is intended to foster an empathic and supportive environment to aid in your journey. Individuals may participate as much as they are comfortable or just be present if that suits them.
Group sessions typically include:
Welcome & introductions (5 minutes)
Group guidelines & grounding (5-10 minutes)
Education/guest speaker/themed topic (15-20 minutes)
Group discussion & sharing (20-30 minutes)
Resource sharing & announcements (5 minutes)
Closing ritual & wrap-up
-
STEP is currently offered Tuesdays 6:00PM-7:00PM and Thursdays 12:00-1:00PM.
-
STEP is held in our Mammoth location (121 College Pkwy, Mammoth Lakes, CA) in the 2nd floor study of the South Gateway Apartments.
The group facilitator may greet you in the lobby and escort you upstairs or you can follow signage to the upstairs study.
-
STEP is a free harm reduction support group.
If you would like to support our work through a financial gift, please consider making a donation to Elevate through the Mammoth Hospital Foundation.
-
STEP is free and open to all adult participants 18 years of age and older.
Sobriety is not a requirement - only the desire to create healthier habits and explore new possibilities. Join us as we take intentional steps toward a healthier, more balanced future together.
